How Burny Games is Expanding the Frontiers of Linguistic Puzzles
Exactly 100 days ago, Burny Games launched Colorwood Words — a game that blends cryptography, linguistic puzzles, and fascinating facts. It combines the signature smooth textures and ASMR sounds familiar to Burny Games fans, and quickly found its audience among those who love words, ciphers, and learning something new. Over this time, the project has grown significantly, and together with Mariia Myronenko, Producer of Colorwood Words, we are sharing key achievements, unexpected discoveries, and our plans for the future.
How It All Started
Colorwood Words was developed on a tight schedule: it took just 71 days to create a minimalist yet engaging MVP version, with only 50 actual working days. From the very beginning, the team worked simultaneously on gameplay, technical development, and art to streamline the process. The main goal was to create a game that not only entertains but also provides players with new knowledge and fun facts.
In Colorwood Words, players decipher encrypted texts using clues, intuition, and language skills. Starting with just a few revealed letters, they gradually reconstruct the entire text, word by word. Successfully completing levels rewards players with fascinating quotes or surprising facts. For example, one level reveals that octopuses have three hearts, while a bonus fact explains why their blood is blue.
The First 100 Days: What Have We Achieved?
500 Levels at Launch & The First Players' Race
The game launched with 500 levels, and in the first few days, the Burny Games team excitedly watched as three players raced through the puzzles. The first-place finish was tied between players from the USA and India, who reached the final level almost neck and neck. A Norwegian player followed them just a few hours later. Today, Colorwood Words features 1,000 levels in English — and even that might not be enough!
Interesting fact: players now spend twice as much time solving ciphers compared to the game's launch!
More Languages, More Opportunities
Initially, the game was only available in English. However, we added Spanish, Portuguese, and French versions during the 100-days-period. This opens up new opportunities for players who not only want to have fun but also learn new languages through puzzles.
Global Availability
We gradually expanded Colorwood Words’ availability, and it is now officially accessible on both the App Store and Google Play in all countries (except russia and belarus). This has helped us reach new audiences and collect even more feedback from players around the world.
New Features That Made the Game Even More Exciting
At launch, the game offered two modes — regular and challenging levels where letters were encrypted with numbers. Players were also introduced to Nana-Banana, a quirky character that adds charm to the game. However, over the past 100 days, we have significantly expanded the features:
Daily Missions – Engage players with exciting daily tasks.
Star Levels – Puzzles featuring different types of ciphers: musical notes, shapes, crystals.
Shop – Players can now purchase hints and disable optional ads.
Easter Eggs – Discover hidden Burny Games references in three special levels.
What’s Next?
Burny Games is already working on new updates to make Colorwood Words even more captivating:
